Commenting on Cards

Guru makes it easy to collaborate and communicate directly on Cards—no switching platforms needed. Card comments allow teammates to give feedback, clarify information, and ensure knowledge stays accurate and relevant.

Access Required

  • All users can comment on published Cards.
  • Only Collection owners and authors can comment on draft Cards.
  • Contact your workspace admin if you need permissions.

Creating a Comment

  1. Open the Card in the web app or browser extension.
  2. Highlight text (in a paragraph, heading, table, etc.).
  3. Click the 💬 Comment icon that appears.
  4. Type your comment and click Save.
    • Click Cancel to discard the comment.

Tips

  • Use @mentions to notify users, Groups, or "All Members".
  • Users must have access to the Card's Collection to be @mentioned.
  • In draft Cards, users must be added as collaborators to be @mentioned.

Editing or Deleting a Comment

  1. Click the ⋮ ellipsis icon next to your comment.
  2. Choose Edit or Delete.
  3. After editing, click Save or Cancel.

Draft Card Comments

  • Comments in drafts "stick" to the highlighted text.
  • If text with a comment is deleted, the comment disappears.
  • Use Undo (Cmd + Z or Edit > Undo) to recover deleted text and comments.

Viewing Comments

  1. Open the Card.
  2. Click the 💬 Open Comments icon in the top-right corner.
    • A red dot indicates unread comments.
    • If no comments exist, a message will display.
  3. Click 💬 Close Comments to hide comments.

Sharing a Comment Link

  1. Open the Card.
  2. Click 💬 Open Comments.
  3. Click on the comment > Copy link to comment.

Note

The recipient must have access to the Card’s Collection (or be a draft Card collaborator) to view the comment.


Replying to Comments

  1. Click Reply under a comment.
  2. Type your response and click Save.
  3. @mention users to send notifications.

Resolving Comments

Resolved comments move to the Resolved Comments tab.

  • Authors and Collection owners can resolve/delete any comment.
  • Read only users can only resolve/delete their own.
  1. Click the ✔ Resolve icon on the comment.
  2. The entire thread will move to Resolved Comments.

Reopening Resolved Comments (Published Cards)

  1. Click > Card history.
  2. Select the Resolved Comments tab.
  3. Click next to the comment > Reopen.

If the original text is gone, the reopened comment attaches to the Card title.


Reopening Resolved Comments (Draft Cards)

  1. Click in the top-right of the draft Card > More options.
  2. Click Resolved Comments.
  3. Click next to the comment > Reopen.

If the original text no longer exists, the comment won’t reopen unless the text is restored.


Reviewing Mentions

  1. Go to Tasks > Mentions in the Guru web app.
  2. View comments where you were @mentioned.

Reply or Dismiss

  • Click Reply to respond.
  • Click Dismiss to remove the mention (does not delete or resolve it).

Disabling Comments Workspace-Wide

Workspace admins can toggle commenting from Manage > Workspace Preferences.

  • If a Card comes from a workspace with comments enabled, users can comment—even when viewed in a workspace that has them disabled.
  • If a Card comes from a workspace with comments disabled, users cannot comment—even when viewed in a workspace that has them enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I find the comment I was notified about?
If the text it was attached to was deleted, the comment may not appear on the Card—but will still be in your Tasks > Mentions. If the text is restored, the comment will reappear.

When do comments attach to the Card title?

  • If they existed before September 2023.
  • Created via the API.
  • Reopened after the original text was removed or changed.

How are “Mentions” ordered in Tasks?
Mentions appear in reverse chronological order (most recent first). You can also sort by column.

Can I view all draft Card comments?
Yes.

  • Open comments: Click the 💬 Open Comments icon.
  • Resolved comments: Click ⋮ > Resolved Comments.

Should I resolve all draft comments before publishing?
Yes. All comments on draft Cards are deleted when published.

What happens to old comments if I disable commenting?
They’re stored in the database, but not visible. If comments are re-enabled, they will reappear.
