AI Assist uses generative AI to help subject matter experts quickly improve, summarize, and clarify the knowledge they create in Guru.

Creating a new Guru Card with Assist
- As a Collection owner or Author, create a new Card in Guru's web app or Slack.
- In the editor toolbar, click Assist.
- Enter a custom prompt describing the content you want generated.
✍️ note: Seeing "No matches were found" is normal before typing your prompt in a blank Card. - Press Enter to submit. A preview will be generated.
- Choose from the options:
- + Add to Card – Insert content at the bottom of the Card.
- 🔄 Retry – Generate a new response.
- X – Discard the content (it won’t be saved).
- (Optional) Submit a new custom prompt to generate a different draft.

Editing an existing Guru Card with Assist
- As a Collection owner or Author, edit a draft or published Card.
- In the editor toolbar, click Assist.
- Choose an action (Summarize, Improve, Adjust Tone, or Translate) or enter a custom prompt.
- After the preview generates, choose:
- ✔️ Replace text – Replace the current selection or full content.
- + Add below – Insert content at the bottom of the Card.
- 🔄 Retry – Generate a new result.
- X – Discard the result (it won’t be saved).
Note
Assist can summarize up to 3,000 words. If a Card exceeds that, you'll see an error. You can then choose to summarize the first 3,000 words or exit Assist mode.
Frequently asked questions about Assist
Can Assist summarize files, images, or videos in a Card?
No. Assist only summarizes the text content of a Guru Card.
Can I choose specific text to summarize or modify?
Yes. Highlight the text (up to 3,000 words) before clicking Assist.
Why didn’t my custom prompt apply to all content?
If no text is selected before submitting a prompt, the Card's content may not be used. Highlight text to ensure the prompt applies.
How do I save a custom prompt?
Only workspace admins can save custom prompts for Group use in the Assist menu.
Can I control who uses Assist?
Yes. Guru admins manage Assist settings under Settings > Assist.
- Assist for Authors: Available to Collection owners and Authors.
- Assist for Readers: Available to all users when enabled.
Why did Assist generate unexpected content?
If the prompt is vague or lacks semantic meaning, Assist may produce hallucinated output. Always verify generated content before publishing.
Can I limit which Assist actions are shown to Card readers?
Yes. Workspace admins can manage available actions under Manage > Workspace Preferences > Assist.
