Setting up Jira and Jira Service Management as a source
Access RequiredGuru Access: You need to be an Admin, Source Creator, or relevant custom role to set up Sources
Jira Access: An API token is required. In Jira, any user can create an API token, but the token will only carry that user’s existing role and group permissions. For this reason, we recommend that a Jira administrator be the one to link the account with the following roles:
Company-Managed ProjectsBasic Project Access
- Navigate to Project Settings → Permissions → Actions → Edit Permissions → Browse Project
- Click Update to grant roles access to the project
Issue-Level Security (Advanced)Company-managed projects may have issue-level security that restricts specific issues (tickets) to certain users, roles, or groups.
To grant site-admin access to all security levels:
- Go to Jira Settings → Issues → Issue security schemes
- For each security scheme, click on its Security Level (under Actions)
- For each security level:
- Click Add (under Action)
- Select Group from the dropdown
- Choose site-admins from the group dropdown
Important: The
site-admin
group must be added to each security level individually to ensure full access across all restricted issues.

Objects Synced from Jira and Jira Service Management
The table below lists the objects we sync from Jira and Jira Service Management. Note: If the authorized user has access to both Jira and Jira Service Management under the same account, connecting to one will automatically connect both since they share the same APIs. To avoid this, we recommend creating a dedicated service account with access restricted to only the Jira projects you want to sync.
