Setting up Zoom as a Source

Guru Access: You need to be an Admin, Source Creator, or relevant custom role to set up Sources.

Zoom Access: You need a Zoom account admin to configure the Marketplace app that Guru connects to.

Setting up a Zoom Marketplace app

Zoom requires a customer-owned app before you can connect Zoom as a Source. Your Zoom account admin needs to:

  1. Create a Zoom Marketplace "General" app (not a Server-to-Server OAuth app).
  2. Submit the app for review with its publication set to Unlisted. This is what unlocks the cloud recording scopes.
  3. Set the app's OAuth Redirect URL to https://oauth2.integrations.getguru.com/callback and add it to the OAuth allow list.
  4. Add six admin-level scopes covering: reading cloud recordings, reading recording files, reading meeting details, reading past participant details, listing users, and reading users.

Complete the Marketplace app setup above before starting the steps below — Guru authenticates against this app during setup.

Connecting Zoom as a Source

  1. In Guru, go to Apps and Integrations.
  2. Select Sources, then click Add Source.
  3. Choose Zoom from the list of integrations.
  4. Authenticate using your Zoom account credentials.
  5. Choose how far back to sync from the Sync Options page: the last 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, or indefinite.
  6. Add a display name for the Source (optional) and click Connect Source.
  7. Assign which Guru Groups should have access to this content.

Objects synced from Zoom

Guru pulls content from your Zoom cloud recordings to power Answers. This content does not appear as Cards in Guru and is not directly searchable, but will be cited in generated Answers.

Zoom users are also synced, which Guru uses to resolve permissions.

You can filter both Transcript and Meeting Chat objects in Guru by Host and by Start Date.

Tip

A recording only produces the objects it actually captured. No transcript file means no Transcript object; no chat log means no Meeting Chat object.

Understanding how Zoom permissions work in Guru

Access to synced Zoom content is inherited, not manually assigned. Each Transcript and Meeting Chat gets a per-meeting access list that mirrors who could see that meeting in Zoom — the host, the invitees, and internal attendees. In Guru, a person only sees the Zoom meetings they already had access to.

Frequently asked questions about Zoom

Do permissions sync from Zoom?
Yes. Access to Zoom content in Guru mirrors the meeting's access in Zoom automatically.

What happens if a recording doesn't have a transcript or chat log?
Guru only creates the objects that were actually captured. A recording without a transcript file won't produce a Transcript object, and a recording without a chat log won't produce a Meeting Chat object.

Can I filter what Guru syncs from Zoom?
On initial setup, you choose how far back to sync from the Sync Options page. Once connected, you can also filter synced content in Guru by Host and Start Date.
