Updating your Microsoft Integration
A new version of Guru's app for Microsoft Teams is available. The app updates in place, so there is no second Guru app to install and your existing Guru setup stays connected.
What does the new version do
- It answers questions now. The old app only searched and shared cards and sent notifications. The rebuilt app gives sourced AI answers from a Knowledge Agent, in a DM or when @mentioned in a channels.
- Admins can put a Knowledge Agent in any Teams channel. Each agent has a Microsoft Teams tab, like Slack, with per-channel controls for when Guru responds (every message or only @mentions, people or bots, thread behavior). This closes the biggest gap between our Slack and Teams stories.
- Guru now shows up in Microsoft 365 Copilot. The same app works as an agent in Copilot Chat, including the Copilot pane in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with no extra Copilot license needed.
Who needs to do what
Which steps apply to you depends on how your organization manages Teams apps.
- Your organization restricts or manages apps through the Teams admin center: A Teams admin needs to update Guru first (see "For Teams admins"). After that, each user updates their own app (see "For end users").
- Your organization lets users manage their own apps: You can skip the admin steps. Each user can update Guru directly (see "For end users").
- Guru is installed in a team or channel: An admin or team owner also needs to update that installation separately (see "For Teams admins," step 4).
If you are not sure which applies to you, ask your Teams admin whether apps are managed centrally.
For Teams admins
- If your organization restricts third-party apps, approve Guru first.
- In the Teams admin center, go to Teams apps > Manage apps and search for Guru.
- Select Update when the new version is available. To roll Guru out to everyone, add or pin it for your users.
- Update each team-scoped installation separately. Open the team, select Manage team > Apps, choose Guru, and select Update. Personal and team installations update independently, so updating one does not update the other.
- Let your users know to expect an update banner in Teams.
For end users
- In Teams, select Apps in the left rail.
- Select Manage your apps and find Guru.
- When prompted, select Update. You may also see an update banner in Teams, and you can select Update from there.
- Open Guru. If prompted, sign in again by going to Guru > Settings > Sign in and entering the six-digit verification code Guru sends you.
If you don't update
Your current Guru functionality in Teams keeps working. You will not have access to the new capabilities in this release until you update. [Confirm with Product and list the new capabilities here.]
Troubleshooting
- You don't see an Update option: Your admin may need to update Guru in the Teams admin center first.
- Guru works in some places but not others: Check whether the team-scoped installation has been updated separately from the personal one.
- You are asked to sign in again: This is expected after an update. Sign in through Guru > Settings > Sign in.
