Embedded Video in Guru

Embed videos from popular video sites:

The easiest way to embed a video into a Guru Card from a popular video site, such as Youtube, Vidyard, Wistia, Loom, or Vimeo, is to use the provided link.

  1. Copy the provided link to the video.

  2. Navigate to the Card you'd like to paste the video into.

  3. In the editing toolbar at the top of the Card, click the Video option.

  4. Paste the copied link in the text box and click the check to complete.

This will embed the video, but will not give you the opportunity to resize the video and may result in some additional padding. To prevent this, copy the embed code (usually found when you select Share at the original video source) and paste it into a Markdown block in the Card.

Embed videos without an "embed" functionality or embed a video saved on your computer:

The below instructions will only work for web-capable videos, such as .mp4 files. If your video is not web-capable, we recommend uploading it to another source, such as Google Drive or YouTube, so that it can then be embedded into your Guru Card.

  1. Select the paperclip icon in the editing toolbar at the top of the Card and upload the video file to the Guru Card.

  2. Right-click on the uploaded video file link and select Copy Link Address.

  3. Click to move your cursor in the Card in the space where you'd like to display the video.

  4. Click the iFrame icon in the editing toolbar at the top of the Card to insert the iFrame block.

  5. Paste the copied link in the text box and click the checkmark to complete the embed.

  6. Your uploaded video should be embedded. Drag the slider at the bottom of the frame to resize the iFrame block.

Embedding a Video via a Markdown block:

  1. Select the paperclip icon in the editing toolbar at the top of the Card and upload the video file to the Guru Card.

  2. Right-click on the uploaded video file link and select Copy Link Address.

  3. Click to move your cursor in the Card in the space where you'd like to display the video.

  4. Click the Markdown icon in the editing toolbar at the top of the Card to insert the Markdown block.

  5. Paste the copied link in the text box and click the checkmark to complete the embed.

  6. Input this HTML code and paste the Link Address you had just copied. This HTML code will prevent the video from auto-playing.

    <video controls src="PASTE COPIED LINK HERE"></video>
  7. Click Preview at the top right of the Markdown block to view the embedded video. To resize the Markdown block, add height and width parameters to the code.

Frequently asked questions about embedding videos:

Can I embed a recorded Zoom meeting?
Currently, Zoom does not support embedding cloud recordings using the recordings URL. In order to embed a Zoom recording, download the file and upload to another video hosting site (Google Drive, Wistia), then embed it to Guru using the directions here.

If the downloaded video file is under 5 GB, you can upload it directly to a Guru card using these instructions.

Why I am having trouble viewing embedded Quicktime Videos?

We recommend using Safari to view embedded web-capable Quicktime videos (.mov files).

Can I control whether a video plays automatically when a Card is open?
Guru does not control whether or not the video auto-plays - this should be based on the settings of the original source of the video.

Try uploading the video to a different source (YouTube, Vimeo, and Wistia all let you do this for free), and then upload the video into Guru. The third-party video hosting platforms usually lets you decide if you want the video to auto-play or not.

Additionally, depending where the video is hosted, you may notice improvements if you try uploading the video using the instructions here to upload the video via a Markdown block.
