Signing into Guru

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the different ways to sign into your Guru account, manage your settings, and troubleshoot common issues. Whether you use a traditional email and password, Google Auth, or single sign-on (SSO), we've got you covered.

Signing In to Guru

1. Using Email and Password:

  • Navigate to the Guru sign-in page.
  • If you've forgotten your password, click on "Forgot your password?" and follow the instructions to reset it. You’ll need to enter your email address and check your inbox for the reset link from [email protected].

2. Using Google Authentication:

  • Simply click the "Sign in with Google" button on the sign-in page. Remember, your Google account password will be used, so any password changes need to be done within your Google Account settings.

3. Using Single Sign-On (SSO):

  • If your team uses SSO, you must sign in through the designated Identity Provider (e.g., ADFS, Microsoft Azure, Okta). If unsure whether your team uses SSO or which provider they use, please contact a team admin for assistance.

Managing Your Account

Change Your Password:

  • Click on your avatar in the top right corner of the Guru web app, then select "Edit profile".
  • Click on "Change your password", enter your current and new passwords, and then confirm the new password.
  • Click "Save". A notification will confirm the password change.

Troubleshooting Sign-In Issues

1. Not Receiving Emails:

  • Check your spam folder or ensure your IT department isn’t blocking emails from [email protected].
  • If signed in through Google or SSO previously, there might not be a password to reset. Try logging in directly through the relevant provider.

2. Can’t See Team Content:

  • If you can't see any content after logging in, you might be in a duplicate or trial team. Contact Guru support for help by emailing [email protected].

3. SSO Issues:

  • Ensure you are logging in through the correct Identity Provider. Admins can set up a native login as a failsafe by following the steps on the "Create Account" section at Guru’s new user page.

4. Invitation Issues:

  • If you haven't received an invitation email, try signing up directly on the Guru Sign Up page. Make sure to check your spam folder for the verification link.

Changing your Email in Guru

Advice for users and admins preparing to update email domains

We recommend planning a change of user accounts in advance and coordinating timings with a Guru team admin.

  1. Take note of any draft Cards, favorite Cards and folders, followed Cards, followed Authors, as well as your profile content.
  2. Ask the admin to invite your new email address and add this new user account to any Groups that your current account is a member of.
  3. Log in and activate your new Guru user account. While you have both accounts, you can make the new account look like the current one by adding the same favorites, follows, and profile information. You also may want to share Card drafts as restricted Cards with your new account.
  4. After the new account setup is complete, the admin should remove your old account from the team. This action will prompt the admin to reassign Verification responsibilities (if required).
  5. Moving forward, you will access Guru using your new email address.

Additionally, while the new user account will not have histories of the old account's sent and received announcements, asked and answered questions, or any comments you have made or were mentioned in, these announcements, questions, and mentions will still exist within Guru.

Changing a team's domain name in Guru

If your team has undergone a domain name change and your team has more than 50 users, our Technical Support team can assist you with this migration. Contact us by clicking Contact Guru Support under Help in the web app or by emailing [email protected].

  1. A list of the new e-mail addresses and/or new domain and pattern of your user names
  2. A specific time frame you would like to have the conversion go into effect.

If your team is under 50 users, please follow the instructions above to invite each new user's email address to match your new team domain name.

Changing a team's domain name with SCIM enabled

If your team is undergoing a domain name change and has SCIM enabled for Guru, you can ask IT to modify all user email addresses in the identity provider. Updates made in the identity provider are then pushed to Guru. Users will continue to access Guru through your team's chosen SSO/SCIM identity provider.
