Connecting Sources to Guru for AI Answers
Guru’s Answers feature combines your team’s verified knowledge with generative AI to deliver trusted responses to questions on demand. It uses natural language processing to interpret questions and search across connected applications to find the most relevant answer.
Access required
You must be a Guru Admin to connect Sources.
Admins can assign Source Owners to manage access. Source Owners can add Viewers, add Owners, or delete the Source.

Important
Content access in Guru is limited by both the Source app's permissions and the Guru Groups you assign.
Linking a Source
- Go to Manage > Sources.
- Select a Source and complete the authentication steps.
- For Slack, select a channel to sync and type
/invite @guru
in that channel to invite the Guru Slackbot. - Some integrations support Selective Sync—choose specific content to reduce sync time and focus results.

- Choose the content to sync into Guru.
- Assign Guru Groups that can access the content.
- Optionally, inherit permissions from the Source system.
- Assign a Source Owner now or later via access settings.
- Guru will email a confirmation once the sync completes. In the web app, the sync status changes from Initializing to Synced.
Managing Source permissions
Two layers of access control apply to linked Sources:

Source-level permissions
The user connecting the Source must have permission to access the desired content in the Source app. -
Guru-level access
- Use Source permissions (if supported): Guru mirrors the Source app's original permissions.
- Or assign Guru Groups: Define who can use this Source's content to answer questions.
Viewing Source details
- Click the caret (▾) next to the Source name.
- Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) beside the folder.
- Select Show details.
- Review:
- Source name
- Synced fields
- Setup user
- Last sync attempt
- Sync status
Deleting a Source
- Click the caret (▾) next to the Source name.
- Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) next to the folder.
- Select Delete Source.
- Confirm by clicking Delete, or choose Cancel to exit.

What types of tools can I connect as Sources?
Guru supports many integration options, including:

How often does Guru sync with Sources?
- Initial sync begins as soon as a Source is connected.
- The connecting Admin receives an email when the first sync completes.
- Guru checks for changes multiple times per day.
- Sync speed varies by Source type and content volume.
Does Guru prioritize certain Sources?
No. Guru evaluates content from all connected Sources equally and uses the most relevant information to generate Answers.
What happens if the Admin who connected a Source leaves?
Another Admin with proper Source access must delete and reconnect the Source.

Can users in another Guru workspace access my Source content?
Only if both of the following are true:
- Their workspace is connected to the same Source.
- They have proper access in the original Source system.
Guru does not share content across workspaces unless explicitly connected and permitted.
Can I upload a .ZIP file as a Source?
No. Guru does not support .ZIP files as Sources. To connect content, upload it to a supported repository (like Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, or Sharepoint). Then, connect that platform as your Source. Alternately, you can connect an individual file using the File Source.
