Boards, Sections, and Board Groups: Definitions

  1. Boards allow you to organize your Cards by topic and publish them to your team. As an example, you can organize all of your competitor Cards onto a Board called Competition for easy consumption by your team, either in the Guru extension or via our web app.

    Distinguishing characteristics of Boards:

    • Boards are made up of Cards. They serve as a means to group Cards by topic.
    • Curated, narrative view of knowledge in Guru based on topic.
    • Primary use case is browsing/studying knowledge on your own time. Great for onboarding new team members.
    • Cover more broad topics of knowledge (i.e. a board for case studies, FAQ’s, etc).
    • Primarily consumed in the web app.
  2. Sections let you organize and visually segment cards within a specific Board. For example, within a FAQ Board you could create Sections for the different types of inbound questions (e.g. Security, Features, Billing).

    • Use cases for Sections are related to those of Boards'. Sections will help you further visually organize the narrative view of knowledge your Board presents.
    • Utilizing Sections makes for easier browsing and content consumption for the recently added as well as the veterans on your team.
  3. Board Groups consist of Boards that you can group under one name, allowing for a higher level of organization above Boards. For example, you can create a Board Group called "Product" that groups all of the Boards that contain information on your various products.

    • As with Boards and Sections, the usage of Board Groups will aid in managing the organization of your knowledge.
